EALG’s Annual Meeting which had been planned to be held in Milano was realized on Zoom platform on the 21st of May because of travel restrictions and health concerns due to Covid-19 pandemic.
On this virtual meeting, Carlos Llorente, Caroline De Scheemaecker and Baris Tan were reelected to the management committee, and Carlos Llorente and Andrew Danas were appointed as co-chairmen for another year.
Members discussed the Group’s activities in the coming months as we deal with the restrictions imposed by the pandemic. This discussion focused on future meetings and on-line activities and publications.
Members agreed that the Group should focus on publications, webinars, podcasts, and perhaps hot topic conference calls, as a way both to continue Group interactions as well as promote the Group and its members to the general public while we deal with the restrictions imposed by the pandemic.
The core strength of the EALG is our personal connections, both in-person at our Annual and Semi-Annual meetings, but also at other times. Given the current uncertainty regarding international travel and stay-at-home orders, it is understood that it is currently not possible to continue with our prior plan to hold the Fall 2020 Semi-Annual meeting in Cyprus.
It is decided to have an in-person annual or semi-annual conference when conditions will sufficiently improve to allow us to come together. In the interim, we agreed to meet on virtual platforms periodically.
