On the final business day of the EALG 2023 Annual Meeting in Lisbon, Portugal the delegates were privileged to hear a presentation from the prominent Portuguese and International professor, author, and media commentator Jaime Nogueira Pinto. Professor Nogueira Pinto’s presentation, entitled “A Not-So-Brave New World”, traced the relationship between the intellectual ideas and insights of Machiavelli, Sir Thomas More, George Orwell, and Aldous Huxley, among others, to current modern day political and legal events after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Soviet Union. After his speech Professor Nogueira Pinto engaged in a wide-ranging discussion with the EALG members about current and future economic and political trends, the war in Ukraine, and the relationship between China and the West in the aftermath of the de-industrialization of Western economies. The EALG thanks EALG member law firm JGSA and Rodrigo Jardim for inviting Professor Nogueira Pinto to speak to the EALG.
